Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action (SNEHA)

Women to Women International currently work in Asia’s largest slum Dharavi, Mumbai, in partnership with SNEHA. Childhood malnutrition is prevalent throughout the slum, and we are active in some of the most seriously affected areas. Children suffering from malnutrition have lowered resistance to infection and are more likely to die from common childhood ailments such as diarrhoeal diseases and respiratory infections.
We operate through local women’s groups to increase mothers’ awareness of the causes and prevention of childhood malnutrition. Our community facilitators employ a variety of techniques to reinforce key health and nutrition messages and engage with the women through activities as varied as discussion, cooking classes, hygiene awareness exercises, and child and infant growth monitoring. These activities enable mothers to increase their knowledge of serious childhood disease and start changing their behaviour positively to improve the health of their children.
We also support SNEHA in their City Initiative for Newborn Health Project (CINH) to reduce early infant deaths throughout Mumbai, India by facilitating changes in the health system and people's health seeking behaviour. We further partner with them to build capacity by providing technical training, organisational skills development, and team strengthening.
